How B2BD came to be...
Updated: Aug 8, 2018
"All our dreams can come true if we only have the courage to pursue them."
When I was younger....
I was enthralled with dramas, musicals and everything that went along with them. I loved it all: the costumes, the sets, the drama, the voices but most of all… the music. At the age of 7, I dreamed of one day being good enough to stand on the stage of Sight and Sound in the spotlight and singing an epic, tear-inducing song. But 'that' is the big time, and I was far... far... far from being good enough for the big time.
As years past, I fell more and more in love with the theatre. Looking back, I wish so badly I would have had the opportunity to sing and act on stage. So I wanted to give kids, with the same passions and dreams, opportunities to try new things, learn artistic skills, and use talents that are so easily tucked away. And I wanted parents to feel safe, knowing their kids were with Christian directors, Christian cast and involved in a Christian drama.
Also, I believe it is important to bring honor and glory to God. It is my desire, my goal, and my duty to use my talents to bring honor and glory to God.
Why would God give all of the kids, all of the directors these talents if we were never intended to use them?
I believe we all have talents and gifts that can be used at B2BD; whether it’s singing a solo on stage, running lights or moving sets, or writing and directing full length musicals. We are given much… so much is required of us. Matthew 25:23: And the Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord”
But the longer I worked on shows, the more I worked with the kids, the more B2BD became about something else.
I realized that it wasn't about high quality lights, music, dance or even the show itself, it was about the hearts of the kids. Watching cast, who at the beginning of a run were terrified to even speak in public turn into actors, singers who bring audiences to tears. B2BD became (at least to me) about the cast. It became about the change in their lives, the confidence in their steps, and the courage in hearts.
So please pray for me and my staff as we continue to serve God as we equip these Christian warriors (I mean cast) to serve the Lord here and all over the world.
